In the late 1800s, Skagen became a centre for a colony of Scandinavian painters and artists. To preserve their works in the surroundings that inspired them, Skagen Museum was founded in 1908. The museum was completed in 1928 and today houses the world's largest collection of Skagen painters' art.

Here you can experience iconic works by P.S. Krøyer, Anna Ancher, Michael Ancher, Laurits Tuxen, Christian Krohg, Holger Drachmann, Carl Locher, Viggo Johansen and many more. The museum also offers changing special exhibitions that provide new perspectives on the world of art.

Brøndum Dining Hall and Museum Garden
Brøndum's Dining Hall, which was moved to the museum in 1946, is a unique room decorated with the works of the Skagen painters. A portrait frieze depicting the artist colony and their circle runs along the walls, complemented by other paintings built into the interior. P.S. Krøyer began the decoration in 1883, inspired by a visit to France. To ensure the preservation of the paintings, the hall was moved to the museum, where it can still be enjoyed today.

In Museumshaven you will find Havehuset, Anna and Michael Ancher's first home together, which now houses a charming café with delicious homemade cakes and great coffee. The garden also houses a historic grain drying warehouse where P.S. Krøyer set up his first studio. Around the café, you can enjoy a lush garden filled with historic flower and plant varieties that complete the idyllic experience.
