The parable of Jesus and the five entrusted talents is perhaps best known for its moral, that he who has much shall be given more, but from him who has nothing, even the last shall be taken away.

In Sindal, one can see an interpretation of the parable in the form of the fountain ”The Five Talents,” which was erected in the town in the mid-1990s. The artist Niels Christian Bach is responsible for the work, which is filled with water during the summer.

And precisely in the 1990s, Sindal was characterised by having many fountains, but more were to come.

At that time, there were thus more than 100 fountains in the city; some were made by performing artists, others were the result of the efforts of dedicated amateurs.

At the same time, Sindal, whose history can be traced back to the early 1400s, is also rich in sculptures. The town lies at the top of the Jutland Ridge, and Sindal truly experienced growth in the late 1800s when it became a transport hub for the railway between Frederikshavn and Hjørring.

It brought the traders to life in Sindal, and the town is still worth a visit in that respect too.

If you're visiting Sindal, a visit to Gøgsigs Pakhus is a must – but you'll need a bit of patience, as the building, which has been used for exhibitions among other things for years, will be re-inaugurated in spring 2025 after a thorough renovation.
