10 kilometres south of Skagen lies Hulsig, which has existed for several hundred years – for many years almost isolated from the outside world, but today Hulsig is an inviting and verdant spot on the fine map of Vendsyssel.

Hulsig Hede lies, as the name suggests, right outside the door, and here you can cycle, walk and run around in the nature that, after targeted efforts through the 1990s and right up to today, has become Rewilded.

Invasive trees such as mountain pine have been effectively stopped, and therefore Hulsig Heath now lies open and inviting with low growth in the dune and heath landscape.

If you enjoy seeing Denmark from the saddle of a bicycle, Hulsig's location offers opportunities for numerous expeditions around the area. Both excursions lasting a few hours and even the possibility of embarking on a grand expedition by cycling along the entire east coast of Jutland from Hulsig and Skagen down to Sønderborg.

But you can also choose to enjoy Hulsig to the full. Head down to the water at Hulsig Beach – it’s a wonderful experience, particularly suited to families with children. Much can be said for the North Sea, but the coast of the Kattegat is more child-friendly.

In the summer, there are also good opportunities to quench your thirst and hunger. And then you must treat yourself to going to see Hulsig Church.

It dates from 1894 and symbolises how the small community of that time came together to build its church:

The state granted 8,000 kroner for the building of the church, as well as 500 kroner for the furnishings – this was not enough, so the few residents of Hulsig collected money and thus obtained an additional 2,000 kroner, so that Hulsig Church could be erected.
