Color Hotel Skagen has been a regular partner since 2010: ”Skagen is a town with plenty of initiative and drive”

When the start gun fires for the Skagen Marathon, it is clearly felt at Color Hotel Skagen. The hotel has been a regular sponsor and close partner since the race's inception in 2010. For hotel director Rikke Gandrup, it is important to support local initiatives that generate activity in the town.

  • We have been involved from the start, because when good events take place in Skagen, it is only natural for us to support them, Rikke explains.

Full rooms out of season

While summer in Skagen pretty much sells itself, it takes a greater effort to draw in guests when the calendar shows autumn. Here, events such as Skagen Marathon play an important role, as they help to attract visitors in the shoulder season.

  • The marathon creates life during a weekend that would otherwise be quieter in the city. The participants come and stay overnight at the hotel and eat in the restaurant, and we get a little extra hustle and bustle at the hotel, Rikke explains.

At the same time, she points out that the race gives visitors the opportunity to experience the city and the surrounding nature in a different way than in the summer.

  • This attracts guests who might want to experience Skagen in a different context than the traditional summer holiday. They get the opportunity to use nature and the town in a new way that shows Skagen also has something to offer outside the peak season.

The partnership keeps the town going

In addition to the more tangible benefits for the business community, Rikke highlights the value inherent in local cooperation. An event of this scale requires broad support and strong collaboration among many different forces across the city.

  • The cooperation between the local business community and the people of Skagen is absolutely crucial. It is precisely this sense of community that makes it possible to create major events like the Skagen Marathon, but also, for example, the Winter Bather Festival. This clearly shows that Skagen is a town with plenty of initiative and drive, Rikke says.

Consequently, Skagen Marathon does not stand alone, but joins the ranks of initiatives that keep the town attractive and vibrant – even when the summer sun has settled and autumn makes its arrival.
