Teenager Harald Nielsen from the divisional club Frederikshavn joined the national team in 1959, and to this day he is the youngest player to have made his debut in the red shirt for Denmark. Harald was just 18 years old when he came on the pitch in Oslo against Norway - and scored his first of many goals for the national team.
The following year, he was the charming centrepiece of the Danish national team that sensationally won Olympic silver at the Rome Games and became a role model for the entire nation. Harald went on to become a professional in Italy, married Rudi from the 'Father of Four' films, and his career reached heights that almost no other Dane has achieved.
Hence the nickname "Gold Harald", because for a number of years it was as if everything Harald touched was gilded. He was also involved in the founding of FC Copenhagen, and after his career he and Rudi Nielsen established a successful business adventure in the capital.
It is therefore fitting that a statue of Harald Nielsen stands on the square in front of Frederikshavn's large Arena Nord. With hundreds of events of almost any size, there are activities in the arena all year round, and as a guest in Frederikshavn, there are plenty of reasons to visit Arena Nord.
Not least to commemorate one of the greatest Danish footballers. Because "Guld-Harald" guards the entrance, ready to shoot the ball into the net.
