Slowguide gathers a collection of selected locations and experiences in Vendsyssel, where quality, authenticity, and local roots are at the heart of things. Here you'll find, among other things, galleries, artisans, second-hand and vintage shops, as well as small workshops and creative environments. What these places have in common is that they offer something unique – experiences you won't necessarily encounter in traditional tourist guides or on major booking platforms. Instead, the guide highlights the small places where personal stories, craftsmanship, and passion are a central part of the experience.
The guide is based on the principles of Slow Tourism, where experiences are measured not by quantity, but by quality. Slow tourism is about taking the time to immerse yourself in your surroundings, meeting the people behind the places, and supporting local businesses. At the same time, it offers the opportunity to experience culture, craftsmanship, and history in a more authentic way. Instead of short stops at busy attractions, Slowguide encourages exploring the area at your own pace – preferably along minor roads and with room for spontaneous stops along the way.
The initiative has been developed by Toppen af Danmark as part of their work to create more sustainable and responsible tourism in the region. Many smaller shops, workshops, and galleries do not have the same marketing resources or digital platforms as larger players in the tourism industry, but they often hold significant cultural and experiential value. Slowguide therefore functions as a shared platform that showcases these places and makes it easier for visitors to find them.
At the same time, the guide contributes to creating value for both guests and local stakeholders by supporting the local economy and highlighting the area's cultural heritage. The project has been developed with support from the EU programme ST3ER, which focuses on strengthening sustainable tourism in rural areas.
Although Slowguide initially targets external visitors, it is also relevant for local residents. Many are surprised by how many exciting places exist in their own local area – places they may never have discovered before. The guide can therefore also serve as inspiration for weekend excursions, small everyday experiences, or new ways to rediscover their own region.
Slowguide is therefore more than just a guide to experiences. It also serves as a narrative about the Top of Denmark as a destination – an area characterised by creativity, craftsmanship, history and people with great passion for their work. By bringing these stories together in one place, the guide helps to create a more nuanced and human portrayal of North Jutland.
Slowguide reminds us that the best experiences often arise when we take our time with them.
