A treasure trove of beautiful things and a story that gives you goosebumps

Denmark's most beautiful manor house

The stunning Renaissance building was voted Denmark's most beautiful manor house in a poll in 2018, and many visitors to the site recognise this.

Step into a fantastical world of fairy tales and spooky ghost stories. Crawl into the dungeon, discover the priceless art treasures and royal antiques, and find the blood stain that won't wash off.

The age of horror and terror

Dating back to the 16th century, the castle has been attacked several times and has changed owners countless times. Today, Voergaard Castle is owned by a family foundation whose purpose is to preserve the castle for posterity and keep the art collection open to the public.

Voergaard's most famous dungeon 'Rosedonten' is located in the oldest part of the castle. An adult cannot stand upright or lie stretched out in there, so there are no light or air holes.

A shaft leads from the dungeon to a room two floors above, and you could hear what was being talked about in the dungeon.

Over the years, there have been many tales of mysterious events and visions of a white lady moving around the castle at night. And in the north-east tower room, you'll find a stain on the floor that is said to be the blood of someone who was killed there. And the stain cannot be removed - because it is innocent blood...

In a display case at the castle, you can see the skin of a wild boar that was killed on the castle grounds in the 1700s. The boar was killed on the border between Voergaard and Hundslund, so there was a minor feud and the two farms shared the spoils, so Voergaard got the skin. According to legend, the boar skin must never be removed from Voergaard Castle, or the castle will collapse.

Have an exciting day and visit the beautiful manor house - Voergaard Castle.
