Costa Frederikshavn - sunbathe in the shade of the palm trees
When arriving in Frederikshavn by car from the south, one of the first things you see after the motorway is a sandy beach with palm trees
Almost 50 years ago, enterprising locals came up with the idea of creating a kind of "Costa Frederikshavn". An artificial beach was established and filled with the finest white sand.
And what is a real sandy beach without palm trees?
That must have been the thinking in the town back then. To this day, Palmestranden is the only beach in Denmark where you can soak up the sun in the shade of the palm trees and combine distant horizons with lovely Frederikshavn.
Of course, the beach has everything your beach heart desires: there's room to play, courts for beach handball and beach volleyball, and of course a real ice cream parlour.
And of course, the beach has a blue flag. Both on the sand and in the water, the environment is in order - and if you look out over the Kattegat, you might spot the harbour seal that thrives in this particular part of the Kattegat.
