It's all about getting up early and keeping your tongue firmly in your cheek

When fresh fish is traded at the fish auction in Strandby, things move fast. On a typical day, several tonnes of fish are landed and put up for sale in the auction house at the harbour in Strandby from 07:00.

The auction is the largest in the Kattegat, and the big "number" is fresh lobsters, which are landed in abundance all year round. In the different seasons, there's also poultry, cod and plaice - it's basically everything good from the sea that keeps you busy from early in the morning.

And yes: As a private person, you can actually buy fish at the auction. It is possible to "land" a box with a mixed catch.

It's a unique experience to start the day among hardened fishermen and traders in the auction house, where tonnes of fish lie in large plastic boxes, chilled and waiting to be sold.
